The annual GamesCom trade fair, this year in Cologne, not only provided FIFAInformer.com to get their hands-on a near finished build of FIFA 10, but also to have a look and see what other football related products there were on show in other areas outside the EA booth.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

It is interesting to note that despite FIFA 10 being the headline act in the EA press conference preceding the official opening of the GamesCom trade fair, the growing majority of the games on show were non-football related.  In particular, the emphasis this year was more towards the casual gamer.  Endless interactive dance floors, skateboards, skis, and fitness kits were easy to find.  However, efforts to find decent alternatives to FIFA 10 and PES on the football market were fairly scarce.

FIFA 10
Firstly, it is important to note that FIFA 10’s public showroom booth was always packed with excited football gaming fans, who were in general delighted with what they saw.  Even some overwhelmed looking football players from local Bundesliga side FC Cologne paid a visit to express their intrigue in the title.

PES 2010
Konami’s PES 2010 booth was a somewhat more modest affair, which in all honesty reflects their modest looking title.  Aside from some crisp and engaging animation and graphics, the overall gameplay experience seemed weak in comparison to FIFA 10.  Matching FIFA 10’s 360 degree dribbling innovation, PES still lacks heavily when it comes to authenticity and real-life simulation.

VIRTUAL TABLE FOOTBALL
In a quest to find some other football related gaming devices on the showcase floors, eventually we came across a piece of kit that seems to defy logic.  A full-sized football table, but instead of a real-life ball and plastic players, a computer screen which simulated the players and ball.  It aimed to be a computer generated direct replica of the original football table, but given the lack of innovation with regards to how the game is played, we failed to see the point!
