Manager Mode BLOG: MY FIFA10 PS3 CAREER

There I was, a 33 year old unknown and inexperienced manager searching in the lower divisions for a team that would want to hire me ...
But then I stumbled upon Accrington Stanley, “the world’s most famous little club” (due to some eighties milk advert ) somewhere at the bottom of the Football League 2. This was to be the start of my (hopefully) glorious FIFA10 managing career…

JULY 2009
After a first look at the squad, I decided that it was rather well balanced, except for a lack of left footed players (only 2 lefties out of 22), so I went to check out the transfer market. 18 year old youngster Ami was loaned to Rotherham Utd as I already had plenty of central backs. Meanwhile, I raised the physical staff level from 3 to 5 considering the heavy schedule in august (2 league games a week). I experimented a bit with my lineup during the pre-season friendlies, and got a few surprising results: we beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0 and drew 0-0 away at Juventus at the Stadio delle Alpi! I guess the Italians weren’t very motivated against a team with such a low rep J But so much for the friendlies, now it’s time for the real stuff!

AUGUST 2009
As well as we did in the pre-season, as poor did Accrington perform in the first league games. We often had the best of play, but lacked efficiency. Only 2 points from the first 5 games (and only 1 goal scored!) was below expectations, but fortunately the club board displayed a huge amount of patience and confidence in their new manager. My players were suffering heavily from fatigue with so many subsequent games, and it started to weigh on our performances. But the fact that we were never wiped off the pitch and never lost with more than 1 goal difference, and a League Cup win over Torquay (with mostly reserve players!) did provide hope for the near future however. And on the transfer market we had little success either, seing all (but one) transfer offers rejected. I guess that’s the downside of managing a small team in the lower leagues: no one seems to want to join you… The only player I was able to sign (just before the closure of the transfer window) was 18 year old Scottish free agent left back Matt Sheridan (OR 46). I sure hope September will be a bit more cheerful…
